Privacy Policy

As a Registered ACA Counsellor, I am committed to protecting and upholding the right to privacy for my clients and bound by the Codes and Ethics of the Counselling Association of Australia. I conform to the Federal Privacy Act (1988) and the Australian Privacy Principles that govern the collection, use, disclosure, storage, security and disposal of your Personal Information, and will not sell, distribute or otherwise give any other organisation access to your personal information, unless explicitly required by law.

Personal Information includes names, birthdate, addresses, email addresses and telephone numbers collected for the primary purpose of providing services to you. Client records are confidential and securely stored. Following last contact all your records will be de-identified. Theraplay video-recordings may be used during professional supervision, then erased.

There are Limits to Confidentiality as required by law that apply when there is :

  • Immediate or grave danger to the client or others, recent or ongoing abuse of a child or dependent adult, diseases or conditions subject to mandatory public health reporting and/or serious crime.

  • Duty of Care then determines that disclosure must be made known to an appropriate authority or organisation.

At initial assessment you will be told what information is collected, how your privacy is protected, your rights in relation to this information, and your signed consent is obtained at time of registration and prior to commencement of counselling.

Signed Consent is required by both or one parent/guardian prior to children attending counselling, and to permit the use of video-recording during dyadic Theraplay sessions.

Complaints - If you feel aggrieved or believe your privacy has been breached, please contact and discuss with me. If your complaint isn’t resolved it can be taken to the OAIC at www.oaic.gov.au or the appropriate registering professional body (ACA).
